Thanks to all who responded to my query about MD optics
stores. Those of you in the Balt-Wash metro area probably
cannot imagine what it is like to live in a county that does
not have a single optics store!
Of course, even Balt-Wash is impoverished compared to
Britain. Just for kicks, every once in a while I buy a copy
of the British magazine Bird Watching. The optic ads are
incredible. There is one company that holds "field days"
every weekend - they take a selection of their equipment out
to birding hotspots and give on the spot demos. They will
even take in and return repairs at the field days. Almost
all the optics stores offer monthly payment plans on scopes
and binos. And one of them will buy you lunch and a pint at
the local pub if you spend at least $99 (pounds, that is).
How's that for a sweetener!
