Great Blue Herons along the C&O Canal

I don't know if this has already been reported but I was out along the Canal
on Saturday, 3-13 and I spoke with a couple who told me that there were a
group of herons nesting on an island about a mile and a half east of
Pennyfield Lock. I walked about 1- 1.5 miles down from the parking lot at
Pennyfield Lock and observed about 20 birds nesting in 2 Sycamore trees on
Watkins Island across the River. There is a good, unobstructed view from the
tow path.
