A lot of good spots have been mentioned, in outlying areas such as Annapolis, Allegany County, etc. In the same spirit, my favorite warbler spot is Holleyman Refuge in Louisiana. Unfortunately, all are equally inaccessible when I've been staring at my computer screen for a whole morning and I NEED TO SEE A BIRD! For those of us in DC (or with access to the metro), let me recommend the woods around the DC War Memorial, on the south side of the Washington Monument reflecting pool. Unique in the 'Monumental Core' area of DC, this spot has un understory of shrubs (azaleas) and white oaks. In my experience, a forest with white oaks and an understory is ideal for attractiing spring migrants. Anyone who has a white oak in their yard knows the attraction - they're as buggy as can be! And if you wait until 9 or 10 AM, most of the homeless people have left for their morning coffee. Jim Jim Felley Smithsonian Institution irmss668@sivm.si.edu
