I picked up a new yard bird on my way out to the car this
morning: singing Winter Wren. I thought I saw one hanging
around the feeders in the snow storm on Sunday, but couldn't
get a good look. The song clinched it this morning. Also
singing were Field Sparrows, competing with the cardinals
for top billing. American Tree Sparrows are also giving
their tinkly little songs. It's time for me to start
sleeping with the windows open - it's a great joy to wake
up in the morning to the sound of all those birds.
