The St. Mary's County, MD Kelp Gull was NOT present at first light this morning, Friday, March 19, 1999, when Tyler Bell arrived around 7:30 a.m until he left at 8:00 a.m. The last confirmed sighting was Sunday, March 14 though the Sea Breeze Restaurant manager said someone reported the bird flying over the river on Wednesday, March 17 at 4 p.m. There were very few gulls along the river this morning and it appears that some or most of the Ring-billed and Herring Gulls have started to move north. The folks at the Sea Breeze Restaurant have offered to give updates. You may call them at 301-373-5217.
