I am from New York but my parents live in Bethesda. I have seen and heard both Black-capped and Carolina Chickadees in their yard, at various times. Their yard is the only place I have ever encountered Carolinas, but the song was completely unambiguous and diagnostic. If you ever get to Long Island, go to Morton NWR in Noyac on the East End South Fork. The Black-capped Chickadees EAT OUT OF YOUR HAND there. They strafe you until you stand still with your hand out with sunflower, then land on your hand and critique the seed. "Not this one" (flick) "not that one" (flick). I had one connoisseur who only accepted the FIFTH seed he chose. ----- Original Message ----- From: Geoff Graff <ggraff@erols.com> To: <gregorym@erols.com> Cc: <mdosprey@ARI.Net> Sent: Friday, March 26, 1999 10:22 PM Subject: Possible BC Chickadee > Hi Greg, > > > > I had a Black-capped Chickadee at my feeder on Dec 24, 1998 after a > snowstorm came through.
