Saw my first two Chipping Sparrows in the yard today, March 30th., one day earlier than in 1998 and 1997. I'm also currently hosting three Fox Sparrows--one arrived in early November and spent the winter feeding in the company of White-throated Sparrows and Juncos, and was joined by two others a week or so ago. From the various reports I have heard or read, it seems that Fox Sparrows were more prevalent in our area this winter than in previous years. Now that the spring migration is underway, it seems they are being reported from many locations. Not that I'm complaining. Ralph Wall Great Falls, Va.
