"They're BAAAACK" may have been half premature; only one Yellow-crowned Night-heron has turned up at the old nest above my Baltimore County house. As of this Saturday afternoon, only the one bird has been seen since its return Thursday morning. The bird occasionally gives a strange dove-like "cooo" and bows, spreads its wings, and raises its back hackles, but there doesn't appear to be any actual partner for the bird's fancies. Hopefully, this will change soon, as other birds including un paired "floaters" without territories drift in. Otherwise, this year's nesting may not actually happen after all. I'll post any additional, hopefully happier developments as they appear. Pete pwebb@bcpl.net (home, after 6) pew@niroinc.com (work, M-F 830-5)
