A breezy a.m. held great promise as we set out on the Central Farm field trip. 36 birders spotted many great birds, the highlights being UPLAND SANDPIPER (seen by all- in flight and in the grass). GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS (side by side for great comparison). COMMON SNIPE -40- feeding in the open and in wheeling about in flocks as they were flushed. AMERICAN PIPITS and HORNED LARKS were amazingly tame and afforded us wonderful looks. A BLUE-GR GNATCATHER amused us by working the low shrubs. NORTHERN HARRIER was a year first for many. One lonely LOON flew over. The VESPERS we set out for didn't dissapoint. One early and one at the trip's end made sure everyone got a peek. There were SAVANNAHS popping out of the grass and a lone FIELD and CHIPPING that were heard. SONG and WHITE-THROATS gave us a five sparrow total. Bonnie Ott (Howard County)
