A noontime walk around Hains Point today (4/13) produced the following: Small flocks of American Coots in the Washington Channel, Double-crested cormorants too. On the golf course, east side, a flock of 6-8 Northern Flickers, foraging in the grass. At the tip of Hains Point, 2 dozen or so Bonaparte's Gulls foraging in the garbage accumulating in the convergence at the point. Also several d-c cormorants, Ring-billed Gulls, Greater Black-backed Gulls and one Herring Gull, also a Common Loon in winter plumage. On the windward side (make that WINDward) of Hains Point, along the seawall, 6-7 Savannah Sparrows, and an Osprey fishing in the river. Jim Jim Felley Smithsonian Institution irmss668@sivm.si.edu
