I went down to Jug Bay and Merkle WMA today 4/18/99 with Gail Frantz.

Best birds were 1 timidly singing, well-seen Hooded Warbler at "Black
Walnut Creek" (the Hooded Warbler capitol of MD, at the end of the main
park road to the bay) and a handsome Green Heron at the same area.

We had 5 warbler-species overall: Hooded, Yellowthroat, La Waterthrush,
Pine, and Myrtle. Surprisingly, we did not find any Yellow-throated
Warblers where I usually expect them at Merkle (the tower trail and the
boardwalk trail). Ironically, Friday morning 4/16 I had my first-ever
Yellow-throated Warbler in my yard, which has no habitat for them at
all.

There were about 10 each of Caspian and Forster's Terns, and one Royal.
