Hi all --
We have had about the same success (or lack of it) in the Dismal Swamp --
heard but not seen Swainson's. However, we have had better luck seeing them
at the Alligator River NWR, just inland from Manteo, NC -- well-decribed in
Fussell's book. Also seen were Red-cockaded WP and Black Bear!! (Red Wolf is
also present but rarely seen).
Another good site is the Vicksburg National Battlefield, in Mississippi, if
your travels take you near there.
