Marion--
The Kelp Gull isn't showing up with much regularity any more, though it
does show up every couple of days. There doesn't seem to be much of a
pattern, either, though it's usually in the morning when it comes. It's
worth trying for--the local Audubon bird-a-thon folks had it on 4/30, but
not the other team on 5/1. Good luck! Jane Kostenko

Here are directions for people coming
>>from the DC, Baltimore, NY/NJ and south.
>>
>>DC: about 1.5 hours from the Mall
>>Bob Mumford's directions: Take route 5 off the Beltway south towards
>>Waldorf. Roughly twelve miles and before Waldorf, turn left on route
>>381 for Brandywine. Follow this good country road until it terminates
>>at route 231 at a "T" in Patuxent "City". Turn right on 231 for two miles
>>until it rejoins route 5 at Hughsville. Then turn left (south) on Rt. 5.
>>When Rt. 5 turns to the right, stay straight on Rt. 235 then turn left on
>>Rt. 472 which is Sandgates Rd. Drive for about 2 miles until you see 2
>>restaurants on the left. Park at the Sea Breeze and scan the pilings
>>behind the restaurant. The bird sometimes flies to the left to the piers
>>beyond the Sandgates Restaurant. Be patient, it'll come back to the
>>Sea Breeze.
>>
>>Baltimore: about 2 hours from 695
>>Take I-97 south and exit onto Rt. 3 (not business 3). Rt. 3 becomes
>>301 at Rt. 50. Stay on 301 (straight) then exit onto Rt. 4 south at Upper
>>Marlboro. Take Rt. 4 south where it merges with Rt. 2 from Annapolis.
>>Stay straight south on dual 2/4 to Solomons. Cross the bridge on Rt. 4
>>into St. Mary's county. At the intersection of Rts. 4 and 235, turn right
>>(north) and proceed for about 8 miles. It's almost exactly one mile past
>>the Hillville Amoco station before you turn right onto S. Sandgates Rd.
>>Go about 2 miles until you get to the river. The Sea Breeze Restaurant
>>is on the right.
