Tyler Bell and I had an adult Mississippi Kite fly past us while we were doing our May Count on May 8, 1999, at 4:27 p.m. at the parking lot of Myrtle Point Park, at the end of Patuxent Blvd, off of Route 235. Tyler was putting the spotting scope in the trunk when I saw a falcon-like bird overhead. Tyler got his bins on it before I did and called out, "Mississippi Kite!" The sun was coming over our shoulders and couldn't have been better lighting. The bird was just clearing the tree tops (about 30 feet high) and was only about 50-60 feet away from us. Unfortunately, it soared right on past in those few seconds, and was not re-locatable when we drove down the road, following it.
