Howdy All! I did May Count yesterday in Hollywood, MD with Kyle Rambo (who's got Attu fever bad--he leaves in a few days--and I am jealous!). We had a fly-over ANHINGA at Dorsey Park off Rt 245 South of Hollywood, sailing in huge circles on the warm thermals, heading listlessly in a northeasterly manner. We tried relocating the bird again further North, but without success. For our area (completely landlocked) we had 107 species for the day with only 19 species of warblers. It was a decent day out! I'll post more on birding this weekend later. I met Tyler Bell and Jane Kostenko this morning (5/9/99) and we headed for Seabreeze in Sandgates to look for the Kelp Gull. I whiffed on the bird on Friday afternoon (3:00-3:15pm) and Saturday (4:00-4:30pm--yes, I took a break from May Count and I didn't know if anyone had this area or not). Today, however, we arrived at the Seabreeze, walked out to waters edge and like magic, the KELP GULL made its appearance known by landing on the pier right in front of us!!! I got a few more shots of the bird before it departed again after just a 5-minute stay. As it flew I heard it call repeatedly (a first for me), giving it's low, gutteral sounding "ruaah" as it disappeared again upriver. I still get a cool shiver down my spine from seeing this bird from another hemisphere... -- Greg Miller Baltimore, Maryland, USA Home- gregorym@erols.com Work- gregory.b.miller@bge.com WWW- http://www.erols.com/gregorym
