Hi All: Marcia and I spent from 4:30 am- 8pm in the county on Sat, and ended up with 123 species, 19 warbler species. We were well pleased with our total for the day. Best birds of the day: Elk Neck Forest- Whips Turkey Point- Cape May Warbler- lifer for Marcia Bethel WMA- Common Moorhen, Marsh Wren Courthouse Point- Virginia Rail, and a single male very late American Wigeon Puddle on 213 near Elkton-Glossy Ibis Gunthers Pond- a nice assortment of shorebirds including American Pipits Edgar Price Rd- more Pipits, and a Vesper Sparrow that nonchalantly walked into our field of view while examining the unusual plummage of the former. Their backs were a blue-gray colour neither of us had seen before, as compared to the Gunther group that had the standard drab coloration. Octararo Creek Trail- A Willet flying up to perch on some rocks at the confluence of creek/river. ( Very unusual county bird for us .) Funniest moment: Tallying up the checklist while heading home, as I proclaimed " I can`t believe we didn`t get Kingfisher ," what did we hear but that familiar rattle coming from the roadside creek!! Worst Whiff: Prothonatary Warbler, my county nemesis. Will post numbers soon. Leslie ( worked today, too tired to do more right now)Fisher Cecil Co
