Almost recovered from a long day of birding yesterday (relaxed by going = back to Monticello Park this morning.) Actually we started the Friday = evening and went until the same time Saturday evening. We went to = Huntley Meadows and recorded 52 species in about 3 hours. There was an = American Bittern and a Sora, but not much out of the ordinary.=20 On Saturday we went to Seneca where we found at least 5 Prothonotary = Warblers, 1 Common Loon on the river, 1 Black-and-white Warbler, 1 = Redstart, among other species. At Sycamore Landing we saw a = Rose-breasted Grosbeak, a Veery, and a singing Cerulean Warbler. We saw = a Sora, Orchard Orioles, and a Yellow-breasted Chat at Hughes Hollow. = Our next stop was at Lilypons and the surrounding areas where we saw 2 = Bobolinks and 1 Least Bittern. Then we rushed back to Monticello Park in = Virginia, where we saw a Hooded Warbler, and Swainson's, Hermit, and = gray-cheecked thrushes. With a quick stop along the Potomac we finally = saw some gulls. We saw or heard 118 species.
