City treats

Dear MDOspreyers,

Two interesting birds in the city:
Yesterday morning, before sunrise (5:30 a.m.) I heard a Screech Owl singing
outside the front window of my house.

This morning, walking the lane behind the church that I serve, I saw a
Gray-cheeked / Bicknell's Thrush in a tree where I had seen a Gray-cheeked
last year. My look this morning lasted only about ten to fifteen seconds.
No visible eye-ring, white (instead of buffy) breast. The bill appeared to
show a more pinkish (rather than yellowish) color, on the proximal part of
the bill, extending less than half of the length of the bill. I could not
observe the back / tail color well enough to comment on that. But, as I
understand it, such observations and fifty cents should be able to get me a
cup of coffee when it comes to distinguishing the two species. (I felt I
could identify the bird I saw last year because I also heard it singing.)
Last year's bird stayed for two days, so I will keep my eyes and ears (and
window) open.
