I did not see this posted on MDOsprey, so I thought I would forward it. ---------------- Begin Forwarded Message ---------------- Date: 5/10/99 8:38 AM Received: 5/10/99 10:04 AM From: Simonson, Don (OD/ORS), simonsond@VRP.NCRR.NIH.GOV To: BIRDCHAT, BIRDCHAT@LISTSERV.ARIZONA.EDU My wife, Marcia Simonson, saw a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD. It was seen flying at C and O Canal National Historic Park, Montgomery County, MD on Sunday May 9, 1999 at 10:10 am. Marcia made sketches. It flew over the Canal approximately 3/4 mi east of Old Anglers Inn Parking lot, approx 1/2 mile west of Canal Bridge Court, heading ESE, toward a small marshy area on the north edge of the canal. Adult or sub-adult male. I was standing next to Marcia looking at a red-shouldered hawk and missed the blackbird! It was seen on the north side of the canal. Two hours of searching did not relocate it. Another illustration of the (Roger Tory) Peterson Principle: in migration, anything can be found anywhere!
