Hello, I birded HIghland Co. on Saturday and managed to see 2 Golden-winged Warblers and heard at least one other Golden-winged Warbler. Two Golden-winged Warblers were seen on route 631 just East of the town of Monterey. Drive 1.2 miles from intersection of 250 and 631, look and listen for the Warblers in the meadow near a small "island" of trees on the Western side of 631. Another Golden-winged Warbler was seen at the Beaver ponds just West of Hightown where 250 crosses Back Creek. Other birds of note found on this trip include: Ovenbird- 2 Pine Warbler - 1 Black-Throated Green -10 N. Parula- 2 Chestnut-sided - 3+ Am. Redstart - 1+ Common Yellowthroat- 5 Yellow Warbler - 1 Magnolia - 3 Black-throated Blue - 2 Blackburnians - 5 .....all along Allegheny road between Locust Springs and the town of Bluegrass. Canada - 1 - Allegheny road. Other highlights were: Willow Flycacther- 1 Wild Turkey - 1 Allegheny Road Ruffed Grouse - heard only Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 1, -route 631 Yellow-billed Cuckoo - 631 Junco - 3 Raven -3 Broadwing Hawk - 1 At the intersection of 642 and 643 near the town of Bluegrass the following were seen: Bobolinks - 3 Horned Lark - 1 seen and heard in flight high overhead....possibly some sort of mating ritual.
