YCN Heron news flash: egg shell found! Robin's egg blue, about 2/3 size of store-bought chicken's egg, 1 1/2" wide by 2 1/4" long. 1999 Events summary: Thu Apr 1: ONE bird shows up at nest; no mate. Mon Apr 5: TWO birds seen, interacting, second (Junior?) driven off Fri Apr 9: TWO birds AT NEST. PAIR. Thu Apr 15: Usually three: two at nest, third nearby. Have seen up to 5 adults. Thu Apr 22: First egg laid. Incubation part time. Still three adults. Mon May 3: Gradual change: usually now just one bird incubating, two others occasionally seen nearby, often "wooping" at each other. Sun May 23: Egg shell found on patio; presumably hatchings begun.
