Sightings there were: At least 110 Black Skimmers located in the roped off restricted area = on the Toms Cove side just south of the south most parking lot (lot = 5). There were also at least 4 American Oystercatchers on nests = in this area. Also, a good many Least Terns were involved in = courtship activity. We have seen large groups of Skimmers there = previously in late September, but never in the spring. We did not see = any Piping Plovers. One Red Knot was observed on the beach just south of lot 5.=20 One Common Screech Owl was seen perched in a tree at 11 AM on the = Woodland Trail. We would not have seen him except for the fact that = he was being mobbed by House Wrens and Yellow-rumps. We did see the Red-headed Woodpeckers on the Woodland Trail. They were = located near the 90 degree turn on the backside of the loop near = squirrel nestbox # 31. We did not look for the Purple Gallinule on the wash flats.
