Just got back from an 11 day trip to the Carolinas. Spent about 60 hours
on pelagic trips, trying for some of my "target" species and maybe some
rarities, if I were lucky. Hoped to get three (Herald Petrel, Fea's
Petrel, and either White-tailed or Red-billed Tropicbird).

As many people know, there are two tour groups that run trips out of Manteo
(Nag's Head) and Hatteras, in parallel. I mostly seemed to be on the
wrong boats at the right time. Fea's and White-tailed TB were seen on the
"other" boats. On trip #5 (6/6), we did get a light morph Herald Petrel
and on trip #6 (6/7), we saw the dark and intermediate morph Heralds.

BTW ... no Bermuda Petrels, Bulwer's Petrels, nor Swinhoe's Storm-Petrels
either !!!

This is what keeps us coming back ... I guess!!!

Phil
