Hello all, Kurt Gaskill and I came across a couple of interesting birds today while doing a route for the Dyke Marsh BBS. First is a Red-breasted Merganser hen that is hanging around with a bunch of Mallards on the river near the picnic area. The flight feathers on this bird appear to be growing in, so it is likely it will not be flying anywhere any time soon. This bird was also noted last Sunday on the regular Dyke Marsh walk. The second bird was a crisp, healthy looking, White-throated Sparrow. This bird was seen at the extreme south end of the parking lots. It was feeding in an open area, hopping around, undisturbed by the throngs present. I wonder what would happen if another one of the opposite sex appeared. Todd Day Jeffersonton, VA BlkVulture@aol.com
