Nancy and I went to Bombay Hook Sunday to look for the Little Egret and White-faced Ibis. We arrived at Bombay Hook at 9:30, and immediately found the Little Egret at the south end of Raymond Pool, and the White-faced Ibis at the north end. The Little Egret was associating with a Snowy Egret, sometimes acting agressively, sometimes quite friendly. The White-faced Ibis was either alone or with a few Glossy Ibis during the 1 1/2 hours that we were there. Both birds were very cooperative. They were present in Raymond pool all the time we were there, and the egret was quite close to the road. After touring the rest of Bombay Hook, we continued on to Port Mahon (gulls and singing Seaside Sparrows), and then on to Ted Harvey (Least Tern and Black Skimmer). The weather (clouds, some rain, and light breeze) made for cool, mosquito free birding. We saw a total of 64 species, as follows: Great Blue Heron Great Egret Little Egret Snowy Egret Glossy Ibis White-faced Ibis Turkey Vulture Snow Goose Canada Goose Mallard Bald Eagle Red-tailed Hawk American Kestrel Clapper Rail Black-bellied Plover Semipalmated Plover Killdeer Black-necked Stilt American Avocet Greater Yellowlegs Willet Sanderling Semipalmated Sandpiper Dunlin Laughing Gull Herring Gull Great Black-backed Gull Caspian Tern Common Tern Forster's Tern Least Tern Black Skimmer Mourning Dove Northern Flicker Willow Flycatcher Great Crested Flycatcher Eastern Kingbird American Crow Purple Martin Tree Swallow Barn Swallow Marsh Wren Eastern Bluebird Wood Thrush American Robin Gray Catbird Northern Mockingbird Brown Thrasher European Starling Yellow Warbler Common Yellowthroat Eastern Towhee Seaside Sparrow Swamp Sparrow Northern Cardinal Blue Grosbeak Indigo Bunting Red-winged Blackbird Eastern Meadowlark Common Grackle Brown-headed Cowbird Baltimore Oriole American Goldfinch House Sparrow Elliot Kirschbaum Baltimore, MD USA mailto:ekirschb@bcpl.net
