I have recently completed a wonderful book on birding in New York City. That's right, right in the middle of Manhattan,
Central Park offers a great location for birders. The story is a six year saga of following the mating and nesting of
Red Tailed Hawks on a building located on 5th Avenue adjacent to the park. The book follows the trials and tribulations
of Pale Male, the male red tail, and his mates, in raising several broods of young. The book covers many aspects of
birding in Central park to include the nesting of Killdeer, Saw Whet owls, hawk watches, big days and the birders of the
park. Included are a check list of 190 regularly seen birds and 90 rarities. Also there is a list of odenata,
butterfly and edible plants.
