Elliot, on Oland Rd for about 100 yrds. There is a road sign on the left (for opposing traffic). Near this sign is a group of 3 tall snags (8-10 ft) on which one of the Dickcissels likes to perch. another 100 yrds) is the area most frequented by the Dickcissels. It is the field on the South side that they seem to prefer. Check for the birds sitting atop the thistles. They were singing/calling incessantly Sunday afternoon from about 3:00-3:45pm. They were never too far from the road and very visible most of the time. Sometimes they disappeared below a thistle out of view, but could still easily be heard calling. A few times they even perched on the fence. At one point, though, all three birds took off to the North, heading roughly toward the farm buildings and a little closer to Rt 85. They were all gone for about 5 minutes after which time 2 returned to the field on the South side of Oland. The other one didn't return to its favorite snag for another 15 minutes. Note that while at their Northerly location, they were both out of earshot and not visible from the Oland Rd location. -Greg Miller Baltimore, MD
