Hi Folks! I met George Jett and Greg Miller at the Pt. Lookout dock. Marty Cribb joined us [because he is Mate on the boat}. The trip over produced 9 Wilson's Storm-Petrels, and the trip back 7. All were in Somerset County waters. Also in the Bay was a 1st Summer Black Tern and, more unusual, a 1st Summer Northern Gannet! Smith Island was hot, and except for the "woods" on the western end, free of bugs. The list: Brown Pelican 12 [also seen on the boat in both St.Mary's & Somerset] Double-crested Cormorant 6 Great Blue Heron 12 [young in the rookery visable from the boat dock] Great Egret 8 Snowy Egret 1 Little Blue Heron 9 Tricolored Heron 4 Cattle Egret 2 Green Heron 3 Black-crowned Night-Heron 4 Yellow-crowned Night-Heron 16 Turkey Vulture 1 Mute Swan 2 Mallard 5 Osprey 16 Clapper Rail 8 American Oystercatcher 6 Eastern Willet 4 Laughing Gull 4 Herring Gull 120 [almost all adults] Great Black-backed Gull 16 Royal Tern 4 Common Tern 2 Forster's Tern 2 Black Skimmer 6 Fish Crow 40 Purple Martin 8 Barn Swallow 25 Carolina Wren 1 Marsh Wren 2 Gray Catbird 6 European Starling 1 Common Yellowthroat 3 Seaside Sparrow 12 Song Sparrow 4 Northern Cardinal 4 Red-winged Blackbird 1 Boat-tailed Grackle 12 Common Grackle 2 Brown-headed Cowbird 1 House Sparrow 20 an interesting assortment. The boat sails at 10 AM, Wednesday through Sunday from the Pt. Lookout Harbor. Fuel costs have raised the charge to $22. Marty Cribb is the Mate and knows how to find the Storm-Petrels! Until next time...... Good Birding Jim Jim Stasz North Beach MD jlstasz@aol.com
