Not exactly where i would have expected a summer RBNU. Exactly where I would suspect a summer RBNU. The PA breeding bird atlas records birds in Somerset and Fayette Co.s in Pa and various sites along the Alleghenny Plateau and Laurel Mountains. Those mountains get higher when you cross the MD border into Garrett Co. The atlas also states that it is a much overlooked species of the Pocono Mtns of PA. When doing the BBS in SW PA, We also recorded Canada warbler and Northern Junco as Present during the breeding season,in the Alleghenny Plateau. I personally had RBNU present Throughout the safe period where I lived in Somerset Co PA during the early 80's. Bob Mullvahill , of the Powdermill Bird Banding Station, has written several papers on the breeding junco population of the Laurel Mountains PA. Historically the RBNU was recorded breeding into the mountains of Tennasee.
