I was surprised that birders are seeing so many Acadian flycatchers this year. In Frederick County, in particular the area around Sugarloaf mountain and along Mount Ephraim road, there have been very few ACFL. It was very disturbing this spring when week after week there were no ACFL or even Ovenbirds along Mt. Ephraim road. By early June the numbers of both species were still well below normal. Other Fred Co. birders have noticed the lack of birds of all species in this area. Does anyone have any information as to why the area around Sugarloaf Mountain would be so affected this year?
