It depends on whether you have access to a car.  I birded the Firth of
Forth area just by taking a city bus from Edinburgh and also found
interesting things in the Princess Street Gardens (but that was over
twenty years ago).  If you are more independently mobile than I was,
try to get a copy of Birdwatching in Britain by Nigel Redman and Simon
Harrap.  It gives several places in the Edinburgh area and includes maps
and other details.  If you can't find a copy and are interested, e-mail
me directly and I'll photocopy the relevant information for you.
