I was very excited this morning when a juvenile Chippy visited the birdbath. I wondered if it could have been a bird from the nest I discovered last week. I went and checked the nest and found two near-fledging chicks dead. The closest one had a large hole pecked in the side of it's head. A very disheartening sight. I'm not sure how many babies had been in the nest (I never approached the nest). I think my feeder bird was probably from a different nest. Any ideas on the murderer? A house sparrow perhaps?
