[MDOsprey] Lake Roland birds

I took a walk at Lake Roland today from 8-11 AM. Met up with Josie Gray
and Ruth Culbertson on the main trail on the west side of the lake.

My thought was that in drought conditions, this shallow lake might be a
good shorebird spot. And we did see some shorebirds, in the following
locations:

Spit of land at north end of the lake:
Killdeer 1
Peeps 3 (probably least sandpiper)

Concrete platform below embankment trail:
Least sandpiper 2
Spotted sandpiper 2
Killdeer 1

Stream trail beyond concrete platform:
Spotted sandpiper 1

If the drought continues, the first two spots listed might be
increasingly good for shorebirds. Also, there was shorebird activity in
the marsh and small pond on the other side of the stream from the
concrete platform. Unfortunately, the reeds are so high this summer
that the pond is invisible, and all one sees is an occasional bird in
flight.

We did have a nice heron list:
y-c night heron 1
b-c night heron 1 (immature)
gb heron 5 (including 1 downy, awkward youngster)
green heron 2
great egret 2

The other highlight of the day was 3 yellow-billed cuckoos.
