I was also rather taken aback when I spotted a Palamedes Swallowtail flying along the Sheerness dike. Seemed very out of place. I am not sure how common this butterfly is as far north as Bombay Hook. Anyone know? Also saw the stint the day before, and I too noticed a dead Least Sandpiper. In fact, the stint kept charging at it! Has there been any speculation about this? Might there be toxins in the spoil material? Tom Stock Silver Spring
