Chris Barnard asks: > My subsription to Wild Bird is running out and I am interested in looking at > other publications. Does anyone have a strong recommendation for a good > birding magazine? I suppose a membership in the American Birding Association is de rigeur these days but, sadly, I find myself looking forward less and less to Birding magazine. The editor's protestations notwithstanding the magazine has clearly been dumbed down. Still, you could do worse, I suppose. The one you really need, if you're interested in learning about bird distributions, is Field Notes, or whatever the ABA has decided to call it this month. Call the ABA for more info at 1-800-634-7736 or visit their website at www.americanbirding.org Another journal you may wish to consider is Birders Journal, coming out of Canada and obviously focusing on the birds of Canada but with some good identification articles of the caliber which USED to show up in Birding. This journal comes out 5 times a year and costs US subscribers US$34 per year. Make your cheque (grin) payable to "Birders Journal" and send it to: Circulation Department, 8 Midtown Drive, Suite 289, Oshawa, Ontario Canada L1J 8L2.
