Mary Lee Berger and I spent a couple of hours in the Chesapeake Beach/North Beach area trying to find shorebirds. We uncovered nothing out-of-the-ordinary, but enjoyed some nice views of what we did find. Marsh along Rt. 261, in front of the North Beach water tower: Snowy Egret - 4 (3 imm.) Green Heron - 2 Kildeer - 8 Lesser Yellowlegs - 1 Spotted Sandpiper - 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper - 20 Least Sandpiper - 2 Pectoral Sandpiper - 2 Short-billed Dowitcher - 3 (guessing they were juveniles because of the warm reddish wash over the underparts) Two Ospreys sitting atop the water tower watched us watch the waders. We found nothing at Fishing Creek except for the usual gulls, terns, Green Herons, Snowies, and Kildeer. Paula Sullivan Alexandria, VA paulas@erols.com
