Clouds and a bit of rain still lingered from last night's frontal storm, so (not unexpectedly) things were still slow at the ridge. At this date last year we were getting fairly strong migrant passages so proper weather conditions might make things more exciting! Nevertheless, it was not totally dead: Scarlet Tanager (4), Red-eyed Vireo (15), Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher (20), Redstart (3), Black-and-White (1), Chestnut- sided (1), Common Yellowthroat (2), Acadian Flycatcher (2), Great Crested Flycatcher (4), E. Phoebe (2), Wood Thrush (4), Yellow-billed Cuckoo --heard only -- at least 5, Cedar Waxwing (8), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (3). Lots of chokecherries, and ripening berries of various sorts seem especially abundant this year -- good for the migrants when they finally arrive! Gail Mackiernan Silver Spring, MD
