Hi All: A nice start to the day with a hummingbird taking nectar from hollyhocks right outside the bedroom window, myself still in horizontal. Phase 1 of the Turkey Point Hawk Watch interpretive sign went well today. We are right on track for the Sept. 1 dedication. A juvenile Red-tail provided our first hawk for the season, Red-headed Woodpecker flyover and a ladybug landed on the Hawk Watch sign moments after it was erected. A good omen?? ( the latter I mean .) Migration definitely getting underway. ~ 40 Gnat-catchers were working the trees at the cliff edge. 1 Black-billed cuckoo was heard, White-eye Vireos still quite vocal. The meadow filled with swallows- Barn, Tree, Rough-wing and a few Bank. Cedar Wax-wings were active. Sorry, no numbers- was trying to sneak in a little birding while we worked on the sign. Just a reminder for anyone wanting to count at the Hawk Watch to get in touch with moi. So far, we have Mon/Tues/Wed. mornings covered, and 3 people who have said they will count " when they can." If you should know in advance when you might spend some time at TP, it would be great to know, so I can keep the park staff apprised of our schedule. Thanks much, Leslie Fisher Cecil County
