Folks
The White Pelican was loafing around the W. Wilson Bridge at lunch today. Between 12:00 and 12:30
pm I observed it drifting from DC into MD waters. (Remember Virginia does not have any waters on the
Potomac.) Yaah!
Sorry, no pictures. I only got the word in the am today. Thanks Gail and Robert.
I first saw the bird from the I 295 south (not 285) bridge just north of the bridge. I watched it drift south
until it was east of the draw span on the bridge and south of the state line. It settled into a collection of
logs with several DC (but in Maryland) Cormorants. I then drove over to Jones Point Park where I found
a few birders with scopes. After some discussion and comparison of our maps, we all concurred the
bird was in MD. It was approximately 100 yards east of the state line if you draw a line from the south tip
of I-295 overpass to the draw span point.
Hopefully, this animal will stay awhile.
Good luck if you chase it.
George
