Sighted the bird from Jones Point (VA) from 12:55 pm to 1:05 pm. I placed it in Maryland waters ... my notes on the location ... Location: · Sighted from Jones Point, VA · Observing location approximately 100 feet north of Woodrow Wilson Bridge · GPS coordinates of observing location = N38 47.6, W077 02.3 · Bearing: approximately 30 degrees counter-clockwise (to the north)--sighted with GPS compass · Estimated to be 8/10 of distance to opposite (MD) shore · Past the far edge of the hydrilla bed · When heading back to MD on the WW Bridge measured .2 mile from passing the bird to the MD shore · Per GPS placement of estimated location at the time of observation and post analysis (that evening) of GPS and map data, this sighting was 400 feet into MD waters.
