Hi all -- Sort of a slow start today at Rock Dreek, DC, at the vicinity of the Nature Ctr. and Maintenance Yards, but it livened up and became a really good day for August! Highlights included a female Golden-winged Warbler and a Yellow- bellied Flycatcher in the Maintenance Yard. There was an obvious increase in flycatchers, and besides the Y-B, we saw Least FC (1), "Traill's" FC (2), Acadian FC (1); Eastern Wood-pewee (10); Eastern Phoebe (2); Great Crested FC (4). Other species included Baltimore Oriole (8), Scarlet Tanager (4), Red-Eyed Vireo (15), Yellow-throated Vireo (1), White-eyed Vireo (1), Black-and-white W. (4), Magnolia W. (8), Worm-eating W. (1), Canada W. (3), Chestnut-sided W. (6), Common Yellowthroat (1), Redstart (5). A female Black-throated Blue was also seen by Bill Dobbins. I had a brief view of an Oporornis sp. in the Maintenance Yard, as well -- unfortunately it did the usual and dove into deep cover and promptly disappeared. Other migrants included Yellow-billed Cuckoo (1) and Ruby-throated Hummingbird (8). Cheers, Gail Mackiernan
