Continuing to check for the White Pelican on my morning & evening bicycle commutes: Tues evening, 24 Aug (1900-1910 EDT): perched on the snag in Hydrilla mat N of Wilson Bridge; Weds AM, 25 Aug (0805 to 0815 EDT): failed to find it scanning river N of bridge (from foot of Jones Pt Rd), then it appeared flying downriver, low over the water, and landed on the snag about 0810. Over the weekend, my sightings of the bird off the mouth of Hunting Creek were all on rising tides. But I did not look at other times, and yesterday David Strother found the bird there 90 minutes before low tide. So it is probably worth checking there anytime the bird is not visible N of the bridge. Sherman Suter Alexandria, VA 22307 ssuter@aaas.org
