Hi all-- The strong cold front promised a good migrant flight, but probably rather difficult (read breezy) conditions at the Rock Creek DC ridge, Nature Ctr and Maintenance Yard. Bill Dobbins was the other birder there, and we plugged along rather doggedly, ending up with a nice total, but not slamdunk birding by any means! Best was a bright BREWSTER'S WARBLER at picnic areas 17/18 -- other species included Bluewinged (1); Black-and-White (8); Black-throated Blue (10); Black- throated Green (1); Baybreasted (1); Canada (2); Hooded (female) (1); Magnolia (12); Ovenbird (1); Tennessee (1); Common Yellowthroat (5), Chestnut-sided (10) American Redstart (15), Scarlet Tanager (2); Red-eyed Vireo (8), Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher (8); Great Crested Flycatcher (1); Acadian FC (1); Eastern Wood- pewee (4); Phoebe (2), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (5). No cuckoos, orioles or grosbeaks, and big dropoff in flycatchers. We shall see what tomorrow brings! Cheers, Gail Mackiernan and Barry Cooper
