Thanks to Ottavio Janni for refinding the White Pelican. After seeing it off the mouth of Hunting Creek after sunset on Sunday, 29 Aug, I had failed to turn it up on my daily commutes or my once-a-day attempts over the rainy, 3-day weekend. Nor did I spot it on my ride upstream yesterday morning (between 0740 and 0800). The bird was on its repositioned snag Tuesday evening (7 Sep) at 1925 when I passed by. It was not on the snag this (Weds) morning at 0645, but I found it 100 m or so below the Wilson Bridge (well towards the MD shoreline) at 0655. I probably would have missed it if I hadn't been a bit more diligent searching for the bird than I have been in recent days. I had not seen it on my ride upstream yesterday morning (along the Alexandria shoreline between 0740 and 0800), but did not detour to the south edge of the bridge then. So it could have been in the same area at that time. Sherman Suter Alexandria VA 22307 ssuter@aaas.org
