Spent a couple hours (1000-1230) so far out in the vicinity of Cedar Point on the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in St. Mary's County. 4-6 foot waves are rolling in from the northeast, but the strong winds and heavy rain seem to be blowing in from the northwest! Bird activity is generally light, with local flights of the usual suspects -- mostly into creeks and sheltered water bodies. One Semipalmated Sandpiper, in the company of gulls on the golf course driving range, is clutching the grass with all his might trying not to get blown away. Only unusual birds so far have been a flock of 7 Red-necked Phalaropes at 1050, 3 Tree Swallows at 1057, and a single adult Sandwich Tern at 1102. All birds were flying north into the wind. Birds seem to be much less active as the storm worsens. I'm heading back out now. Hope I don't get blown away.
