A slow hour on the Mall produced a couple of Fall arrivals -- 1-2 yellow-rumps in a small mixed warbler flock with 2 magnolias and a chestnut-sided, and a lone junco. The odd duck was hanging out on the island at constitution gardens with mallards, peking ducks, and various hybrids thereamong. At first I thought it was a mallard X black duck, based on its chocolate back, black head, and yellow bill. then it turned around to reveal a large white area on the breast, so it is most likely a black X "mallard" or perhaps of even more dubious provenance (mallard X dark exotic?).
