A visit to Ridgely sewage lagoon from 1:30 - 2:30 this afternoon produced: Black Tern - 1, molted almost entirely into basic plumage White-rumped Sandpiper - 1, basic plumage (studied at close range in telescope) Least Sandpiper - 5 Semipalmated Sandpiper - 1 Kildeer - 2 Ruddy Duck - 2 Canada Goose - many The water level was so high that there were no shallow areas in the impoundments themselves. The shorebirds were seen chiefly on the shoulders of the dikes, usually down near the water. Occasionally one or two briefly came up onto the level top of the main cross dike. The tern flew actively over the impoundments, and twice perched on the white linear ? buoys that are used to separate the various areas of the impoundments from one-another, providing very good looks. Sorry this is posted so late that the lagoon is already closed for the weekend, but we just reached home and a computer. Harvey ____________________________________ S.
