I've gotten a bit behind and this is some new and some catchup stuff. On Tuesday (Oct. 5) I worked the giel in Perryman off of Chelsea Rd. that Jim Staz and Matt Haffner covered on Sunday. On Wednesday morning Brian Monk and I spent two hours there. Highlights Wednesday were: White-cowned Sparrow 1 (juv) Lincoln's Sp. 1 (probable) there were 2 on Tuesday Palm Warbler 15 (! Yellow) Blackpoll Warbler 1 Common Yellowthroat 3 BLUE GROSBEAK 2 (late) Indigo Bunting 1 Savannah Sparrow 50+ (everywhere) Song Spwrrow 20+ BOBOLINK 3 (late) Tree Swallow 5000+ American Goldfinch 100+ (this is where the redpolls will be!) Red-tailed Hawk 4 Gray Catbird 8 Field Sparrow 10 I returned on Friday morning. Many of the sam birds, minus the Bobolinks and Indigo Bunting, and there was only 1 Blue Grosbeak, but the Song Spwrrow count was higher tnad there were 2 Lincoln'e Sparrows and a CONNECTICUT WARBLER. The number of White-crowned Sparrows had doubled to 2. Near the entrance to the Sod Run Sewage Plant I had my first White-throated Sparrows of the fall, and a Nashville Warbler. A quick stop at the Proving Ground provided me with my first red-breasted Nuthatches of the year (the last person in Maryland to get one this fall?), at least 6. Rick "This is a free country.
