Hi All: It`s been a great week out at Turkey Point. I just tallied birds for the week from 10/6 to 10/12 inclusive......962 total!!! If I`d known how close we were to 1,000 for the week, I might have stayed an extra hour this morning!! Nearly half of these came through yesterday on 10/11. Dave Wilson was back for a repeat visit to the hawk watch for yesterdays flight and took great pains to repeatedly tell his friend Steve, who arrived after the main thrust of the afternoon action, " man, you were an hour too late." Anyways..... SHARPIES comprised over half the weeks count at 502. Falcons are still coming through, KESTREL-59, MERLIN-9 and PEREGRINE-3. RED-SHOULDERS are beginning to move, 23 in the last week. For more comprehensive weekly tallies, see www.udel.edu/cecilbirds This morning was slowish, but there was a nice mixed flock of passerines, including both KINGLETS, PALM WARBLER ( one of these most definitely yellow ), YELLOW-RUMP, WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH. Also 6 PURPLE FINCH, 2 male and 4 female that were kind enough to perch in a snag close to the watch for a good look. The bold white supercilium of the females was plainly seen. As they perched, I was able to recognize the " tick " call note pointed out to me by a friend last year. Leslie Fisher Cecil Co.
