Hi all -- Barry and I went to Monument Knob this morning to see if any hawks were moving; we got there about 9:30 and stayed until noon. Rather slow, we tallied about 6 Sharpies, 2 Cooper's, 3 Redtails, 2 Red-shoulders and a Harrier during that time. Also two Pine Siskins and a few other distant (noncalling) finches. We stopped at the Lilypons area on the way back, but didn't walk into Lilypons proper due to time constraints. Best birds were 8 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER in a plowed field just north of the intersection of Rt 85 and Oland Rd, on the west side. There are also a lot of Killdeer there and elsewhere. We also tallied 10 species of sparrow, good for not doing Lilypons or Lower Mon ocacy Bottom Rd. Had White-crowned, White-throat, Song, Field, Chipping, Junco, Vesper (2) and Grasshopper (1) along Park Mills Rd, near the little cemetery, Swamp along Rt. 80 and Savannah along Oland. Lots of Chippings around and quite a few White-crowns scattered here and there. Couple of yellow Palm Warblers and a scattering of both Kinglets rounded up the total. Cheers, Gail Mackiernan
